In fact participants will focuses equally on acquiring technical skills and nurturing the environmental sensibility that will inform their ceramic practice. By using just their hands and some basic tools, participants will experience the making of utilitarian objects out of clay, while questioning the very need of making and, hopefully, developing a new awareness about their material use. They will explore pinching, coiling, slab building, and basic surface decoration to pursue individual projects with assistance from the instructor. Aim of this class, as well as of all the ceramic classes at Geologismi, is to create a new relationship with the material world, one in which the participants work with the material and not upon it, to express their own creativity.
Classes meet once a week for 2 hours, for 4 weeks.
Materials and firing of three objects (maximum size 15*15*15cm) are included in the class tuition.
